ROYAL CANADIAN MINT TO PRODUCE 400 MLN COINS FOR THAILAND
(Full text of a statement. Contact details below) OTTAWA, July 8 /CNW-AsiaNet/ - The Royal Canadian Mint is
pleased to announce that it has been awarded a contract valued
at over $10 million to produce 400 million 2 Baht Thailand
coins. The new coin denomination uses plated steel, a
technology developed by the Royal Canadian Mint, and will be
the first coin of this kind in Thailand. In 2004, the Royal Canadian Mint won a contract to produce 1
billion one Baht Thailand coins. Both contracts were won
through competitive bids. The coin will be produced at the Royal Canadian Mints
state-of-the-art plating facility in Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Canada. On July 7th, 2005 President and CEO, David C. Dingwall
in a speech to the Thai-Canadian Chamber of Commerce in
Bangkok, Thailand highlighted the Canadian Mints international
reputation and success, focusing on its innovative technologies
including the non-cyanide plating process used for all Canadian
denominations. The Royal Canadian Mints ability to compete and
win contracts of this magnitude speaks to our quality and
innovation, said CEO and President, David C. Dingwall.
Following one of the biggest turn-arounds in our corporate
history in 2004, contract wins such as these support our
continued growth and success. The Royal Canadian Mint produces over 1 billion Canadian
circulation coins annually. The Crown Corporation also competes
against other Mints for international contracts and has
produced coins and coin blanks for over 60 countries in the
last 25 years. The Royal Canadian Mint, an ISO 9001-2000 certified company,
is the Crown Corporation responsible for the minting and
distribution of Canadas circulation coins. In operation since
1908, the Royal Canadian Mint is recognized as one of the
largest and most versatile mints in the world, offering a wide
range of specialized, high quality coinage products and related
