AUSTRALIA'S DAVID JONES EYEING 5-12 MYER DEPT STORES
Friday November 25, 2005, 12:21 pm
MELBOURNE, Nov 25 Asia Pulse - Retailer David Jones Ltd said
today it is interested in about five to 12 Myer department
stores. David Jones chief executive Mark McInnes said he is
particularly interested in Myer stores in Indooroopilly in
Queensland, Chirnside and Doncaster in Victoria and Macquarie
in New South Wales.
He said if they are unsuccessful in a Myer bid, then he
would like to open David Jones stores in those areas within
five years. Coles Myer is talking to about 20 parties, local and
international, about a possible sale of the 61 Myer stores. Mr McInnes said David Jones had not signed the
confidentiality agreement with Myer because he believed it
would not provide them with any new information. "We are the only other department store operating in this
country and we have a unique insight into the industry," Mr
McInnes said. "We are actively seeking to team up with another
purchaser." But he said he had not spoken with Harvey Norman boss Gerry
Harvey who is looking for a partner for a possible bid. "We would be interested in having a chat with Gerry," Mr
McInnes said. ASIA PULSE
