TUV Rheinland Group Chosen to Conduct C-TPAT Validations in China

Tuesday October 2 4:00 PM

The TUV Rheinland Group has been chosen by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to be one of a select group of third party auditing bodies to participate in a one-year pilot program to conduct Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) validations in China.

C-TPAT is a voluntary security initiative that was launched as a direct response to 9/11, to better secure the global supply chain and facilitate legitimate cargo and conveyances entering the United States. It builds on the best practices of CBP/industry partnerships to strengthen supply chain security, encourage cooperative relationships and to better concentrate CBP resources on areas of greatest risk. It is open to customs brokers, importers, terminal operators, carriers and certain foreign manufactures to enable them to benefit from reduced inspections and accelerate processing at US ports and borders.

C-TPAT participation requires the submission of an application and subsequent certification and validation of the information provided by the applicant. Successful applicants gain access to a host of benefits at customs point of entry, including a 'Green Lane' through customs.

TUV Rheinland and other selected companies will act on behalf of the US government to conduct on-site validations of the manufacturers that supply US importers enrolled in the C-TPAT program. The program currently has approximately 10,000 companies enrolled.

Sebastian Doose, COO of TUV Rheinland Japan Ltd., said that the "Selection by US Customs Border Protections pilot program in China is a great opportunity for the TUV Rheinland Group to support the US government in the delivery of C-TPAT services in China. With over 1,500 employees in 19 offices across China we will undoubtedly be able to provide the necessary support for the success of the program. Our inclusion in the program further emphasizes our global commitment to supply chain security."
