OKI Expands its Lineup for CenterStage(R) NX Series, the Carrier Grade Communication Server for IMS and NGN

Monday March 31 2:03 PM

Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6703) today announced it has added CenterStage(R) NX5000 R3, NX5100 R2 and NX5200 R2 to its lineup of carrier-grade communication server for IMS and NGN. The new CenterStage NX 5000 Series now uses Advanced-TCA(1) (ATCA), which is the standard hardware platform in the telecom industry. OKI also adds two additional models to its lineup.

"We believe our new NX 5000 Series will enable telecom carriers to build IMS(2) core networks for both fixed and mobile networks and to offer a variety of services to their users by connecting with application servers," said Kichiro Akino, President of Network Systems Company at OKI. "We will continue to provide these products to customers having networks of various sizes in the NGN, IP telephony and mobile communication markets."

The newly added models include:

-- CenterStage NX5000 Series (NX5000 R3, NX5100 R2, NX5200 R2)
These are IMS compliant session control servers enabling S-CSCF(3),
I-CSCF(4), P-CSCF(5) and MGCF(6) functions. ATCA platform is now
    applied in the NX5000 series.
-- CenterStage NX3500
NX3500 is an IMS compliant media resource server supporting MRF(7)
function. Under the control of the NX5000 series, the server can
offer a flexible and scalable voice-based guidance service.
-- CenterStage NX1200
NX1200 is an IMS compliant media gateway with MGW function and
enables interworking between NGN, IP telephony networks and Public
Switched Telephone Networks. NX1200 offers media conversion
    functions under instruction of NX5200.

Many telecom carriers require higher reliability, higher performance, higher capacity and longer life cycle for their equipment used for NGN and IP telephony networks. It is now important to provide products with high network processing power, scalability, and design flexibility while maintaining carrier-grade reliability.

To meet such needs, OKI has adopted the ATCA platform, the industry hardware standard platform, to its CenterStage NX5000 Series. With this ATCA blade, OKI's NX5000 Series now offers improved hardware maintenance, longer durable period compared to general purpose rack-mount servers, smaller size and ensures the industry's highest scalability. The ATCA blade is also loaded with the new SAF-compatible version of "CenterStage HAPF," OKI's well-established high availability middleware that is currently used in the NX series. As the company also includes a general-purpose server in its lineup, OKI can now offer CenterStage to all customers, whether having small scale networks or large.

The CenterStage NX5000 Series include a dual core CPU on the ATCA board, supporting up to 800 thousand subscribers. The NX5000 ATCA blades can be placed into a single ATCA shelf, which then can serve a maximum of 4.8 million subscribers. Therefore, the installation space is reduced to one-third compared to OKI's general-purpose rack-mount servers and power consumption is also reduced to one-third, which also helps in reducing operating costs. Because the NX5000 Series can be supported in the same ATCA shelf, equipment design optimization can be achieved corresponding to various traffic conditions.
