Thursday May 8, 2008, 10:43 am

TAIPEI, May 8 Asia Pulse - Love Rose, a grape wine submitted by the Puli Township Farmers' Association to the 2008 Brussels international wine competition, won a silver medal -- the first award ever won by a private winery in Taiwan.

The pink-colored wine in pyramid-shaped flasks is produced by the Taiwan Premium Agricultural Products Development Institute in Nantou County in central Taiwan. It was one of 10 entries submitted by private wineries of Taiwan to the competition, formally called the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2008.

The annual international competition took place April 18-20 in the middle of vineyards in Bordeaux, a port city in the southwest of France.

A jury of some 240 tasters from 45 different countries evaluated over 6,200 wine samples during the three-day competition. Around 30 per cent of all the wines sampled were awarded medals.
