Flight delays expected as Qantas engineers threaten to strike
Friday May 9, 2008, 9:50 am

Qantas engineers are threatening to walk off the job if the airline brings in strike breakers to resolve a pay dispute.

The Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association is angry about a breakdown in pay negotiations.

It's planning to recommend that members engage in industrial action, including bans on overtime.

But Association spokesman, Stephen Purvinas, says strike action is still a possibility.

"We don't plan or intend to exercise that unless they do something to escalate the dispute," he said.

"Say for example they bring on some scab labour or stand our members down without pay, that might be another reason that we would consider two day stoppages."

The association says passenger safety wont be compromised by their plans to engage in industrial action, but says passengers should expect flight delays.
