Three arrested outside Burmese embassy
Friday May 9, 2008, 3:02 pm

Three protesters have been arrested at a demonstration outside the Burmese embassy in Canberra.

Police say they stepped in when a protester threw a water bottle at a car entering the embassy.

One woman will be charged with throwing a projectile, while two men will face a charge of breaching the peace.

Around 100 demonstrators were rallying against the Burmese military junta and what they say has been its inadequate response to the millions left homeless by the cyclone that devastated the country.

One of the protesters, Myo Hein, was told that a water bottle was thrown.

"That's in the eyes of police officer that it is violating, consider violence or something, so our protester has been arrested and she was being hit, that's what I was told," he said.

Another protester, Myo Nanda Myo, says the police overreacted.

"We protest peacefully here, and then the car from the embassy came up here and we shouted to slow down, then he drive away," he said.

"When we came up here, one of us threw a water bottle with emotion."
