Aurora no comment on Basslink talks
Friday May 9, 2008, 4:17 pm

Aurora Energy has declined to comment on the status of negotiations with CitySpring Infrastructure Trust, the company controlling the Basslink cable connection across Bass Strait.

Basslink comprises two cables: one is for electricity, the other is a fibre-optic connection.

The State Government is paying $2 million a year for Basslink, but its fibre-optic line is not being used.

Aurora's chief executive, Dr Peter Davis, today confirmed he was personally involved in negotiations to commercialise the asset.

"What I can say about the negotiations is that Aurora is working very closely with the Tasmanian Government to deliver an effective broadband outcome for Tasmanian people and it would be inappropriate to comment on the state of those negotiations."
