IUJ Announces New Mentor Network and Special Scholarship in Celebration of International Women's Day 2009

Saturday March 7 3:17 AM

Niigata, Japan, Mar 6, 2009 - (JCN Newswire) - The International University of Japan (IUJ) is celebrating International Women's Day (IWD) in three exciting ways.

First, IUJ has officially unveiled its Global Women's Mentor Network (GWM Network) which currently includes more than 100 IUJ Alumni in more than 35 countries around the world who have agreed to mentor current and incoming female students to IUJ. "Through these connections and interactions," said Yasuma Sugihara, President of IUJ, "we believe that the women in our current and incoming classes will gain significant benefits from these mentors that are unavailable in any other university."

The second element of this on-campus celebration of IWD will be the official unveiling of a special scholarship specifically dedicated to an outstanding female candidate living in Japan. This scholarship will offer a full tuition waiver for the 2-year MBA program or the 1-year E-business Management Program at IUJ. Dr. Philip Sugai, Dean of the GSIM stated that "as our GWM Network proves the incredible success of our alumni to date, with the announcement of this scholarship today, it is our intention to further enhance the opportunities available for women to study at IUJ." IUJ's GSIM is the only Japanese Business School ranked in the Top 100 global business schools by the Economist Intelligence Unit, a position that it has held for the last six years.

The final part of IUJ's celebrations will include an on-campus event featuring an unveiling of the new logo for the Global Women's Mentor Network. To help kick off the IWD celebrations on campus, Dr. Philip Sugai will present the logo for the Women's Network as a symbolic show of IUJ's renewed dedication to promoting academics and professional development for IUJ women.

The new logo for the Global Women's Mentor Program represents the world-wide network of IUJ women guiding each other into an exciting future. With the first stroke of the letter "W" encompassing a globe, the last stroke of the "W" is reaching out to meet the opportunities that our network can help create and then carry them in that direction. "The enthusiastic response from our women alumni to participate in this Mentor Program proved again how dedicated and powerful the IUJ Alumni network is," said Gretchen Shinoda the Director of IUJ's Alumni Relations and Career Services. "Our alum's willingness to support current IUJ women get a head start in their careers will make the IUJ experience even more unique and valuable."
