Transport hearings on islands
Monday November 2, 2009, 11:45 am

A Tasmanian Legislative Council Select Committee investigating island transport services will visit King and Flinders Island this week for public hearings.

The committee has released a report containing legal advice about the solvency of the company that runs freight services to and from Flinders Island.

It now wants public comment and to hear about past and present concerns.

The committee's chair Tania Rattray-Wagner says the problems need to be fixed.

"This particular issue about the reliability of the services to the Furneaux group has been going on, in my mind for about 12 months at the very least," she said.

"It's just come to a head, in my view, and so certainly it is a very appropriate time for the committee to be taking evidence."

The committee will hold hearings on King Island tomorrow and Flinders Island on Wednesday.
