Biggest dip in home approvals hits Qld
Wednesday November 4, 2009, 2:17 pm
New figures show home building approvals slumped in Queensland last month. The number of private sector approvals dropped by 5.4 per cent across the state. That is the largest fall in the country. Steve Greenwood from the Property Council of Australia says house prices will keep rising unless more land is released for development. "The solution is for both State and Local Government to recognise this as a major problem and to start opening up more areas of land," Mr Greenwood said. "In the inner areas we need to actually address some of the speed bumps and the hurdles to actually allowing high density development."
