Mid West iron project approved
Thursday November 5, 2009, 9:28 pm

The State Government has granted final approval for Sinosteel iron ore project, south east of Geraldton.

The Environmental Protection Authority earlier recommended the government reject the Chinese company's plan to mine at Mungada Ridge.

But the Environment Minister, Donna Faragher, upheld an appeal by Sinosteel, saying she was satisfied the environmental impact on the ridge's bio-diversity would be relatively small.

The project will now go to the Federal Environment Minister, Peter Garrett, for Commonwealth approval.
