KR told to pay out entitlements
Friday November 6, 2009, 9:00 am

The Member for Toowoomba North, Kerry Shine, says he expects a food processing plant in Toowoomba to honour its commitment to pay full entitlements to its employees who were recently stood down.

KR Castlemaine announced on Wednesday it would close its Toowoomba operation, in southern Queensland, by the end of the month, putting 190 people out of work.

Mr Shine says the company has assured the Queensland Government it will pay out entitlements.

"I have already made inquiries of the relevant department and about what the situation was with the entitlements of workers, what was the company's attitude," he said.

"I'm assured that the company has assured the Government that workers will be paid their full entitlement, that there will not be any issue about entitlements, but of course we will be monitoring the position very closely to make sure that undertaking is met."

KR Castlemaine spokeswoman Fiona Flemming says the company has been talking to workers.

"The entitlements will vary depending on their net service and their situation but we will be honouring all entitlements," she said.
