Benefits of private health cover

I am deciding whether to take out private health cover and would like to know all the benefits of private health care?

There are many benefits of private health insurance, including having a right to choose your own doctor and hospital. Also if you need to undergo elective surgery then you don't having to wait for a long time like you do under the public system. There are many things that are covered under private health cover that Medicare doesn't cover. This is commonly referred to as "the gap". This includes, but is not limited to:

•  Medical costs Medicare does not cover
•  Hospital expenses in a private hospital.
•  Ambulance.
•  Physiotherapy
•  Podiatry.
•  Dental treatment.
•  Chiropractic treatment.
•  Home nursing.

Also, if you don't have private health cover then you may have to pay an extra 1% tax on top of your 1.5% Medicare Levy.
