Credit cards sham

I'm looking into signing my husband up to a frequent flyers program, as his job requires him to do a lot of flying. I would have to change his credit card to one with a rewards program attached. My question is, is it all a sham? Considering the frequent flyers program joining fee, plus the higher interest rate and the annual fee for the credit card, is it really worth it?

It could well be a mistake. However, it's certainly not a sham in the truest sense of the word. Research is the key. You have to make sure that you do not end up paying more money - rather than the main objective here, which is to save money. Your husband should ask for all the fees and charges that would apply with the change and then you will need to estimate how many frequent flyer points you will obtain and equate this to dollars saved. Then you can decide whether the switch is worth it.
